This is a laser cut kit for the Baby Ringmaster. The Sterling Baby Ringmaster was Kit S13. This is NOT a Sterling kit. The airplane has a 21 inch wingspan and 95 square inches of wing area. This version of the Baby Ringmaster has fuselage and empennage shapes true to the Sterling S1 Ringmaster. The original S13 kit has shapes similar to the S1 Ringmaster but not the same as the S1 Ringmaster. The wing cross section is based on an Eppler 473 to give more lift than the original airplane. All the stock Ringmaster wings are rather thin, so do not provide the more desirable flight characteristics that the thicker wing provides. The extra drag of the thicker wing is an advantage if one wants to stunt the airplane. It has been reported that an airplane built to this design flies better than one built from the original kit. The airplane is designed for a Cox BabeBee or a Cox Surestart engine. New Surestart engines are available from Cox International. The use of a Surestart engine requires a Perfect #1 fuel tank, or a Brodak #BH501 fuel tank.
The kit includes a ¼” balsa fuselage and a pair of ¼” balsa engine mount gussets, a 3/32” balsa horizontal stabilizer, elevator, vertical stabilizer, and rudder, 10 each 1/16” balsa wing ribs and 4 each 1/16” balsa wing tips, an 1/8” aircraft plywood engine mount, and a 1/16” aircraft plywood bellcrank mount, one piece of ¼” square balsa 24” long, one piece of 3/16” X ¼” balsa 24” long, 2 pieces of 1/16” X ¾” balsa 24” long, and 1 pieces of 1/16” X 2” balsa 14” long, a bellcrank and control horn, pushrod wire, and landing gear. The kit comes with full size plans and a copy of the original S13 kit plans and a decal.
